Description

These Taco Tortilla Roll Ups are a flavorful and easy-to-make appetizer perfect for parties or casual gatherings. Made with a creamy mixture of cream cheese, sour cream, shredded cheddar, cooked chicken, and bold taco seasoning, wrapped in soft flour tortillas, then chilled and sliced into bite-sized pieces. The addition of jalapenos, salsa, and fresh cilantro gives a zesty kick, making these roll ups a delicious crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • 227 g cream cheese, softened
  • 113 g sour cream
  • 2 tbsp taco seasoning
  • 80 ml salsa (taco or picante sauce)
  • 1-2 jalapenos, seeded and finely diced
  • 170 g cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 170 g cooked chicken, shredded
  • 15 g cilantro, finely chopped

Wraps

  • 6 flour tortillas, 20 cm (8 inch) diameter

Instructions

  1. Prepare the filling: In a large bowl, thoroughly mix the softened cream cheese, sour cream, taco seasoning, salsa, finely diced jalapenos, shredded cheddar cheese, shredded cooked chicken, and chopped cilantro until the mixture is homogeneous and evenly combined.
  2. Spread the filling: Lay one flour tortilla flat on a clean surface or plate. Evenly spread approximately 30 to 45 ml (2 to 3 tablespoons) of the prepared filling over the entire surface of the tortilla, ensuring it is coated edge to edge.
  3. Roll the tortillas: Carefully roll the tortilla tightly into a cylinder shape, starting from one end and rolling all the way to the other to securely enclose the filling. Place the rolled tortilla on a plate. Repeat this process with the remaining tortillas and filling mixture.
  4. Chill: Refrigerate the rolled tortillas for 2 hours to firm up the filling and allow the flavors to meld, which also makes slicing easier.
  5. Slice for serving: Remove the chilled rolls from the refrigerator. Slice off the ends of each roll to remove uneven edges, then cut each roll into bite-sized pieces suitable for serving as finger foods or appetizers.
  6. Arrange and garnish: Place the tortilla roll-up slices neatly on a serving platter. Garnish with additional chopped cilantro if desired for a fresh pop of color and flavor. Serve chilled or at room temperature.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, keep some seeds in the jalapenos or add a dash of hot sauce to the filling.
  • You can substitute cooked shredded turkey or beef for chicken as a variation.
  • These roll ups can be made a day ahead and stored covered in the refrigerator.
  • Use whole wheat or gluten-free tortillas to suit dietary preferences.
  • Serve with extra salsa or guacamole on the side for dipping.
