Description

A classic Southern Peach Cobbler featuring juicy peaches baked with a buttery, fluffy biscuit topping. This comforting dessert combines sweet, spiced fruit with a golden crust that rises beautifully in the oven. Perfect served warm, especially with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for added indulgence.

Ingredients

Scale

Peach Filling

  • 8 cups fresh peaches, peeled and sliced (or 6 cups frozen peaches, thawed)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

Batter

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the cobbler.
  2. Prepare Peach Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the peaches, 1 cup granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch. Stir gently until the peaches are evenly coated. Set aside to allow the flavors to meld.
  3. Melt Butter: Place the butter in a 9×13-inch baking dish and put it in the oven until the butter is completely melted. Remove the dish carefully from the oven.
  4. Make Batter: In a medium bowl, mix together the flour, 1 cup granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Slowly add the milk while stirring, until the batter becomes smooth and lump-free.
  5. Layer Batter over Butter: Pour the batter evenly over the melted butter in the baking dish. Do not stir, as the butter will help create a crisp base.
  6. Add Peach Mixture: Spoon the peach mixture over the batter evenly, again without stirring. The batter will rise around the peaches forming a cobbler topping as it bakes.
  7. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the cobbler is fully set.
  8. Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and let the cobbler cool slightly. Serve warm, optionally topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

  • For the best flavor, use ripe, in-season peaches when possible.
  • If using frozen peaches, be sure to thaw and drain excess liquid before mixing.
  • Do not stir the batter after adding peaches; this allows the crust to rise properly.
  • Can be served with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for extra indulgence.
  • Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator and reheat before serving.
