  • 1½ cups boiling water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and pour the melted butter into a 9×9-inch baking dish.
  2. Mix Batter: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and granulated sugar. Stir in milk and vanilla until smooth. Pour the batter over the melted butter in the dish—do not stir.
  3. Prepare Topping: Mix brown sugar and cocoa powder, then sprinkle over the batter. Slowly pour boiling water over the topping—do not stir.
  4. Bake: Bake for 35–40 minutes until set on top and gooey below. Let cool slightly before serving with ice cream or whipped cream.
