Ingredients
Scale
Meat and Vegetables
- 1 lb beef stew meat, cut into cubes
- 4 carrots, peeled and sliced
- 4 potatoes, peeled and diced
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
Liquids and Seasonings
- 4 cups beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Prepare Ingredients: Gather all the beef, vegetables, and seasonings. Peel and slice the carrots, peel and dice the potatoes, chop the onion, and mince the garlic to get everything ready for the slow cooker.
- Combine in Slow Cooker: Place the cubed beef, sliced carrots, diced potatoes, chopped onion, and minced garlic into the slow cooker pot evenly.
- Add Liquids and Seasonings: Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce over the ingredients. Sprinkle the dried thyme, dried rosemary, salt, and pepper on top for seasoning.
- Mix and Cook: Stir all the ingredients gently to combine flavors throughout. Cover the slow cooker with its lid and cook on low setting for 7 to 8 hours, or on high setting for 4 to 5 hours, until the beef is tender and vegetables are fully cooked.
- Season and Serve: Once cooking is complete, taste the stew and adjust salt and pepper if needed. Serve hot as a comforting meal.
Notes
- For thicker stew, you can add a tablespoon of cornstarch mixed with cold water in the last 30 minutes of cooking.
- Feel free to add other root vegetables like parsnips or turnips for variety.
- Beef stew meat can be browned in a skillet before adding to the slow cooker for extra flavor, though it is optional.
- Leftovers store well and taste even better the next day.
