Description

These Slow-Cooker Barbecue Sandwiches are a delicious and easy meal to prepare. Tender, flavorful pulled pork or chicken cooked low and slow in a savory homemade barbecue sauce, piled high on buns with your favorite toppings.

For the Meat:

  • 2 ½ pounds boneless pork shoulder or chicken thighs, trimmed and cut into large chunks

For the Barbecue Sauce:

  • 1 cup barbecue sauce (your favorite brand or homemade)
  • ½ cup chicken broth or water
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Additional:

  • 6 sandwich buns
  • Optional toppings: coleslaw, pickles, sliced onions

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Meat: Place the pork or chicken in the slow cooker.
  2. Make the Sauce: In a bowl, combine barbecue sauce, chicken broth, vinegar, sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Pour over the meat.
  3. Cook: Cover and cook on low for 7-8 hours or high for 4-5 hours until tender.
  4. Shred and Serve: Shred the meat, coat in sauce, and serve on buns with toppings.
