Description

This Sicilian-Style Tuna with Olives and Capers recipe is a flavorful dish featuring seared tuna steaks in a savory sauce with a Mediterranean twist. Perfect for a quick and delicious dinner!

Ingredients

Tuna Steaks:

4 tuna steaks (about 6 ounces each)

Other Ingredients:

2 tablespoons olive oil, 1 small red onion (thinly sliced), 3 garlic cloves (minced), 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional), 1/2 cup dry white wine, 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes (halved), 1/3 cup pitted green olives (sliced), 2 tablespoons capers (rinsed and drained), 1 tablespoon tomato paste, 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice, 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley, salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Season the tuna steaks: with salt and pepper on both sides.
  2. Sear the tuna steaks: in a large skillet over medium-high heat with 1 tablespoon olive oil for about 1–2 minutes per side, then set aside.
  3. Sauté onions and garlic: in the same skillet with the remaining oil until softened. Add red pepper flakes, garlic, and cook briefly.
  4. Add tomato paste and wine: to the skillet, stir, then add cherry tomatoes, olives, and capers. Simmer until the sauce thickens slightly.
  5. Return tuna to the skillet: spoon sauce over the top and cook briefly to warm through.
  6. Finish with lemon juice and parsley: Drizzle lemon juice, sprinkle parsley, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Best served with crusty bread, roasted potatoes, or couscous.
  • Substitute swordfish or mahi-mahi if tuna is unavailable.
  • For extra flavor, consider adding anchovy fillets with the garlic.
