Ingredients

Scale

Masa Dough:

  • 3 cups masa harina (corn flour for tortillas)
  • 2 1/4 cups warm water
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Filling:

  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup refried beans
  • 1 cup cooked and seasoned pork (chicharrón), finely ground or shredded

For Cooking:

  • Nonstick cooking spray or a little oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare Dough: Combine masa harina, warm water, and salt in a bowl. Mix into a soft dough. Add more water if needed. Cover with a damp towel.
  2. Make Filling: Mix cheese, beans, and pork in a bowl.
  3. Form Pupusas: Divide dough into balls. Flatten a ball, add filling, seal, and flatten into disks.
  4. Cook Pupusas: Cook in a skillet over medium heat until golden brown and charred.
