Ingredients
Scale
Pastry
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
Filling
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- ¼ cup powdered sugar
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Egg Wash
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Sugar Glaze
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 tablespoon honey (optional, for extra shine)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper to prevent sticking and facilitate easy cleanup.
- Prepare the Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix thoroughly until the texture is smooth and creamy.
- Cut the Pastry: Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet onto a clean surface and cut it into six equal rectangular pieces for individual pastries.
- Fill the Pastry: Place a spoonful of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each rectangular puff pastry piece, ensuring an even distribution of filling.
- Seal Pastries: Fold each pastry over the cream cheese filling to create a pocket, pressing the edges gently but firmly to seal the filling inside.
- Apply Egg Wash: Using a pastry brush, gently brush the tops of each pastry with the beaten egg to give them a golden and glossy finish during baking.
- Bake: Arrange the pastries on the prepared baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the pastries have risen, puffed up, and turned a golden brown color.
- Prepare Sugar Glaze: While the pastries are baking or shortly after, heat granulated sugar, water, and honey in a small saucepan over medium heat until the sugar dissolves completely, creating a syrup glaze.
- Glaze Pastries: Once pastries are baked and still warm, brush them generously with the prepared sugar glaze to add a shiny, sweet coating.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the glazed pastries to cool slightly on a wire rack before serving to enjoy their flaky texture and creamy center at the perfect temperature.
Notes
- Make sure the puff pastry is well thawed before cutting for easy handling.
- You can substitute honey with corn syrup or skip it for a less shiny finish.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container; best eaten within 1-2 days for freshness.
- For extra flavor, try adding a pinch of cinnamon or citrus zest to the cream cheese filling.
