Description

This Philly Cheesesteak Stromboli is a delicious, hearty Italian-American roll filled with savory roast beef, sautéed bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, and melted provolone cheese. Wrapped in a soft Rhodes white bread dough and brushed with garlic butter, it’s baked to golden perfection for a comforting meal perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough and Spread

  • 1 loaf Rhodes Frozen White Bread, thawed
  • â…“ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Vegetables and Filling

  • 2 tablespoons butter, divided
  • ½ cup green bell pepper, diced
  • ½ cup onion, diced
  • ½ cup mushrooms, sliced
  • Deli roast beef slices (enough to cover dough surface)
  • 6 slices provolone cheese

Seasoning and Topping

  • â…› teaspoon garlic salt
  • â…› teaspoon sesame seeds
  • â…› teaspoon dried parsley

Instructions

  1. Thaw Dough: Thaw frozen Rhodes white bread dough according to package instructions until it has doubled in size, ensuring it is soft and ready to shape.
  2. Sauté Vegetables: In a skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat and sauté the diced green bell pepper, onion, and sliced mushrooms until softened and caramelized, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.
  3. Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent sticking.
  4. Roll Dough: On a floured surface, roll out the risen dough into a 12 by 18 inch rectangle, creating an even layer for filling.
  5. Spread Mayonnaise Mixture: Mix the mayonnaise with garlic powder and spread the mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a ½ inch border around the edges.
  6. Layer Fillings: Arrange deli roast beef slices evenly over the mayonnaise layer. Add the sautéed vegetables on top of the roast beef, then layer the provolone cheese slices over the vegetables.
  7. Roll Stromboli: Carefully roll the dough jelly-roll style starting from the long side, tucking in the filling as you go. Pinch the seams and ends tightly to seal the stromboli completely.
  8. Prepare for Baking: Transfer the stromboli seam-side down onto the prepared baking sheet. Melt the remaining tablespoon of butter and brush it evenly over the top. Sprinkle garlic salt, sesame seeds, and dried parsley over the surface for added flavor and texture.
  9. Bake: Bake the stromboli in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the internal temperature reaches at least 165°F (74°C) to ensure it’s cooked through.
  10. Rest and Serve: Allow the stromboli to rest for 5 minutes before slicing with a serrated knife. Serve warm and enjoy this flavorful, cheesy sandwich roll.

Notes

  • Use a floured surface to prevent dough from sticking while rolling out.
  • The sautéed vegetables can be customized with your favorite additions such as jalapeños or different types of mushrooms.
  • Ensure the stromboli is sealed well to prevent filling from spilling out during baking.
  • For a crispier crust, bake on a pizza stone if available.
  • Letting the stromboli rest before slicing helps maintain its shape and prevents the filling from oozing.
