Ingredients
Scale
For the Dough and Filling
- 1 package (16 oz) refrigerated bread dough
- Zest of 1 lemon
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
For the Glaze
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2-3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- Lemon slices, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Roll Out Dough: Roll out the refrigerated bread dough into a rectangle on a lightly floured surface, ensuring an even thickness for uniform baking.
- Make Lemon Sugar: In a small bowl, mix the lemon zest with granulated sugar until fragrant and well combined.
- Spread Butter and Sugar: Evenly spread the softened butter over the dough’s surface, then sprinkle the lemon sugar mixture across it to create a flavorful filling.
- Roll Dough: Starting from one long edge, carefully roll the dough into a log shape, maintaining a tight and even roll to help the rolls keep their shape.
- Slice Rolls: Cut the rolled dough log into 12 equal pieces, then place them cut-side up in the prepared baking dish, giving them room to expand during baking.
- Bake Rolls: Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, until the rolls turn golden brown and are cooked through.
- Prepare Lemon Glaze: While the rolls bake, whisk together the powdered sugar and fresh lemon juice until smooth to create a sweet and tangy glaze.
- Glaze and Serve: Once baked, drizzle the warm rolls with the lemon glaze. Garnish with lemon slices if desired. Serve warm and enjoy the fresh citrus aroma and soft texture.
Notes
- For extra lemon flavor, you can add a teaspoon of lemon extract to the glaze.
- Make sure the butter is softened to spread easily without tearing the dough.
- If you prefer a thicker glaze, add less lemon juice.
- These rolls are best served warm but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days and reheated gently.
- You can substitute fresh lemon juice with bottled lemon juice though fresh is recommended for best flavor.
