Description

These Italian Sliders make a perfect crowd-pleasing appetizer or casual meal. Savory Italian sausage, melted provolone cheese, pesto sauce, and roasted red peppers all come together on soft slider buns, baked until golden and delicious. Ready in just 40 minutes, they are ideal for game days, parties, or easy family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale

Sliders:

  • 12 slider buns
  • 1 lb Italian sausage (sweet or spicy)
  • 8 oz provolone cheese, sliced
  • 1/2 cup pesto sauce
  • 1 cup roasted red peppers, sliced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the assembled sliders.
  2. Cook the sausage: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the Italian sausage until it is fully browned and crumbled, ensuring it is well cooked through.
  3. Prep slider buns: Slice the slider buns in half horizontally. Spread the pesto sauce evenly on the bottom halves to give a flavorful base.
  4. Assemble the sliders: Layer the cooked sausage on top of the pesto spread, then add slices of provolone cheese and roasted red peppers for added flavor and texture.
  5. Top and prepare for baking: Replace the tops of the buns on each slider, brush the tops with olive oil to help them brown, then cover the entire tray with foil to keep the sliders moist during baking.
  6. Bake covered: Bake the sliders covered with foil for 15 minutes until the cheese is melted and the sliders are heated through.
  7. Finish baking uncovered: Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 5-10 minutes until the tops of the buns are golden brown and slightly crisp. Serve hot.

Notes

  • You can use either sweet or spicy Italian sausage depending on your heat preference.
  • Make sure to cover the sliders with foil during the initial baking to keep them moist and allow the cheese to melt perfectly.
  • These sliders are best served immediately while warm and gooey.
  • For a vegetarian option, substitute the Italian sausage with plant-based sausage.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator and reheated in the oven to retain crispness.
