- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp dried thyme
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 1 1/2 cups beef broth
Assembly:
- 4 hoagie rolls, split
- 8 slices provolone cheese
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
- Optional: fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Cook the Ground Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef for about 6–7 minutes, breaking it apart with a spatula. Drain excess grease and set aside.
- Sauté Onions: In the same skillet, heat olive oil and cook onions until caramelized, about 8–10 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
- Combine Ingredients: Return the ground beef to the skillet, add Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Pour in beef broth and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Prepare Rolls: Preheat broiler. Butter the inside of hoagie rolls and toast lightly.
- Assemble Sandwiches: Spoon beef mixture into rolls, top with provolone slices. Place under the broiler for 1–2 minutes until cheese melts.
- Serve: Serve with remaining broth as au jus for dipping.
Notes
- For a richer au jus, add 1/2 cup red wine to the beef broth and simmer for extra flavor.
- Enhance with sautéed mushrooms or bell peppers for added texture.
