Description

Indulge in the savory goodness of this Ground Beef French Dip Sandwich, a delectable and simple recipe that’s sure to become a family favorite. Juicy ground beef, caramelized onions, and gooey provolone cheese nestled in a toasted hoagie roll, served with a flavorful au jus for dipping.

Ingredients

Scale

Ground Beef Mixture:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 1/2 cups beef broth

Assembly:

  • 4 hoagie rolls, split
  • 8 slices provolone cheese
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • Optional: fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Cook the Ground Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef for about 6–7 minutes, breaking it apart with a spatula. Drain excess grease and set aside.
  2. Sauté Onions: In the same skillet, heat olive oil and cook onions until caramelized, about 8–10 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  3. Combine Ingredients: Return the ground beef to the skillet, add Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Pour in beef broth and simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. Prepare Rolls: Preheat broiler. Butter the inside of hoagie rolls and toast lightly.
  5. Assemble Sandwiches: Spoon beef mixture into rolls, top with provolone slices. Place under the broiler for 1–2 minutes until cheese melts.
  6. Serve: Serve with remaining broth as au jus for dipping.

Notes

  • For a richer au jus, add 1/2 cup red wine to the beef broth and simmer for extra flavor.
  • Enhance with sautéed mushrooms or bell peppers for added texture.
