Description

Garlic Potato Pops are crispy, cheesy mashed potato balls infused with fresh garlic and parsley, perfect as a savory appetizer or party snack. These golden fried bites feature a delightful crunch on the outside with a creamy, flavorful center, making them an irresistible treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Potato Mixture

  • 2 cups mashed potatoes (cold and firm)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 large egg
  • ¾ cup breadcrumbs

For Coating and Frying

  • Additional breadcrumbs for coating
  • Vegetable oil for frying (about 2 inches deep)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the potato mixture: In a large bowl, combine the cold, firm mashed potatoes, shredded cheddar cheese, chopped fresh parsley, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, large egg, and ¾ cup breadcrumbs. Mix thoroughly until the ingredients are well blended and the mixture holds together firmly.
  2. Form the potato pops: Scoop out approximately 1 tablespoon of the mixture at a time and roll it between your palms to form a smooth ball. Continue forming balls with the rest of the mixture.
  3. Coat the potato balls: Roll each potato ball in additional breadcrumbs to evenly coat the outside, which helps create a crispy crust once fried.
  4. Heat the oil: Pour vegetable oil into a deep skillet or saucepan to a depth of about 2 inches. Heat the oil over medium heat until it reaches the correct frying temperature, hot enough to crisp the potato balls but not burn them.
  5. Fry the potato pops: Fry the potato balls in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Cook each batch for 2 to 3 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crispy on all sides.
  6. Drain and serve: Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried potato pops from the oil and transfer them onto a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce for an irresistible appetizer.

Notes

  • For an even crispier texture, chill the formed potato balls in the refrigerator for 30 minutes before frying.
  • To add extra flavor, mix in chopped chives or cooked bacon bits with the potato mixture.
  • Alternatively, you can air-fry the potato pops at 400°F for about 10 minutes, turning halfway through cooking for a healthier option.
