Description

This Dr. Pepper Jalapeño Beef Jerky recipe combines the sweetness of Dr. Pepper soda with a spicy kick from jalapeños to create a flavorful homemade jerky that is perfect for snacking or as a protein-packed treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Beef:

  • 2 pounds lean beef (such as top round or flank steak), thinly sliced against the grain

Marinade:

  • 1 cup Dr. Pepper soda
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 23 fresh jalapeños, sliced (or 2 tablespoons pickled jalapeños)
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for extra heat)

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Beef: Place the sliced beef in a large zip-top bag or shallow dish. Whisk together Dr. Pepper, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, onion powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper. Add jalapeños to the marinade and pour over the beef. Refrigerate for at least 8 hours.
  2. Prepare for Dehydration: Preheat dehydrator to 160°F. Pat dry the marinated beef slices and arrange in a single layer on dehydrator trays.
  3. Dehydrate: Dehydrate for 4 to 6 hours until jerky is dry but slightly pliable. Cool before storing.

Notes

  • For a milder jerky, use only one jalapeño or a mild chili as a substitute.
  • You can also make this jerky in the oven at the lowest temperature setting with the door slightly open.
