Description

This Creamy Shrimp & Crab Bisque is a rich and flavorful seafood soup that combines succulent shrimp and delicate lump crab meat in a velvety, paprika-infused broth. Perfect for a cozy dinner, this bisque is quick to prepare, taking only 35 minutes to make and serving four people with a satisfying and elegant dish.

Ingredients

Scale

Seafood

  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 8 oz lump crab meat

Vegetables & Aromatics

  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Liquids & Seasonings

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare Vegetables: In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, and diced red bell pepper. Cook the mixture until the vegetables are softened and fragrant, approximately 5 minutes.
  2. Cook Shrimp: Add the peeled and deveined shrimp to the pot. Cook them until they turn pink and are just cooked through, which should take about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add Crab and Broth: Stir in the lump crab meat followed by the chicken broth, heavy cream, and paprika. Season with salt and pepper according to your taste. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.
  4. Simmer Bisque: Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat. Then reduce the heat to low, letting the bisque gently simmer for 15-20 minutes to allow all the flavors to meld together beautifully.
  5. Serve and Garnish: Ladle the hot bisque into bowls and garnish each serving with fresh parsley. Serve immediately to enjoy the creamy and flavorful seafood bisque.

Notes

  • Use fresh seafood for the best flavor, but frozen shrimp and crab can be substituted if needed.
  • Adjust the cream quantity based on your desired richness and thickness.
  • You can add a splash of white wine while adding the broth for an extra depth of flavor.
  • Serve with crusty bread or a light salad for a complete meal.
  • Make sure not to overcook the shrimp to keep them tender and juicy.
