Description

A classic Caesar Salad recipe featuring crisp romaine lettuce, crunchy homemade croutons, creamy Caesar dressing with anchovy paste, and a generous topping of Parmesan cheese. Ready in just 25 minutes, this fresh and flavorful salad is perfect as a light meal or a side dish.

Ingredients

Scale

Salad

  • 1 head Romaine Lettuce
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese, grated
  • 1 cup Croutons (homemade or store-bought)

Caesar Dressing

  • 1/4 cup Mayonnaise
  • 1 clove Garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Anchovy Paste
  • 2 tablespoons Lemon Juice, fresh
  • Salt and Black Pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil (for croutons)
  • 4 slices Bread (for croutons)

Instructions

  1. Wash and Dry Lettuce: Thoroughly wash the romaine lettuce under cold water, then dry completely using a salad spinner or clean kitchen towels until crisp to ensure the salad is fresh and crunchy.
  2. Make Croutons: Cube the bread into bite-sized pieces, toss them with olive oil to coat evenly, then spread on a baking sheet and bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for about 10-12 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Let cool.
  3. Prepare Dressing: In a bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, minced garlic, anchovy paste, and lemon juice until smooth and well combined. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
  4. Toss Salad: In a large salad bowl, add the dried romaine lettuce and pour the dressing over it. Toss gently but thoroughly to coat each leaf evenly with the dressing.
  5. Add Toppings: Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese over the dressed lettuce, then add the crispy croutons on top for added texture and flavor.
  6. Serve Immediately: Serve the Caesar salad right away to maintain the freshness and crunchiness of the lettuce and croutons for the best eating experience.

Notes

  • For a richer dressing, you can add a raw egg yolk if desired, but ensure it is fresh and from a trusted source.
  • Anchovy paste can be substituted with Worcestershire sauce for a milder flavor.
  • Croutons can be made ahead and stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
  • Optional: Add grilled chicken or shrimp to make it a more substantial meal.
  • Use freshly grated Parmesan for the best taste and texture rather than pre-grated versions.
