Scale
Dough
- 3 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet (2 and 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
Filling
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
Glaze
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 to 3 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Prepare the dough: In a large bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, granulated sugar, active dry yeast, and salt. Add the warm milk, melted butter, and egg, then mix until smooth.
- Knead the dough: Gradually add the remaining flour until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- First rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
- Roll out the dough: Roll the dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick on a floured surface.
- Add filling: Spread the softened butter over the surface of the dough, then sprinkle evenly with brown sugar and ground cinnamon.
- Form rolls: Roll the dough tightly into a log shape, then slice it into 12 even rolls.
- Second rise: Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the rolls for 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown.
- Make the glaze: While baking, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Glaze and serve: Drizzle the glaze over the warm rolls before serving for a sweet finish.
Notes
- Use room temperature ingredients for best results.
- Do not overheat the milk to avoid killing the yeast.
- You can add chopped nuts or raisins to the filling if desired.
- For a richer topping, substitute cream cheese frosting for the glaze.
