Ingredients

Scale

For the Cake:

  • 1 box chocolate fudge cake mix (plus ingredients listed on box, usually eggs, oil, and water)
  • ½ cup evaporated milk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Filling:

  • 1 (14 oz) bag caramels (unwrapped)
  • ½ cup evaporated milk

For the Topping:

  • 1½ cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup chopped pecans
  • extra caramel sauce or melted caramels for drizzle (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Prepare the cake mix according to the box instructions.

  3. Melt the caramels with ½ cup evaporated milk in a saucepan over low heat.
  4. Remove the cake from the oven and pour the caramel mixture over the top. Sprinkle with pecans and chocolate chips.
  5. Spread the remaining cake batter over the top and bake for 20–25 minutes.
  6. Cool slightly, then top with more pecans and caramel sauce.
