Description

This Chili Cheese Dog Casserole is a comforting and flavorful dish perfect for a family meal. It combines hearty chili with beans, spicy Rotel tomatoes, and smoky hot dogs wrapped in cheesy crescent roll dough, all baked to golden perfection. Easy to prepare and sure to please both kids and adults, this casserole is ideal for casual dinners or game day gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Chili Mixture

  • 2 (15-ounce) cans chili with beans
  • 1 (10-ounce) can Rotel diced tomatoes and green chilies, undrained
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided

Crescent Roll Hot Dogs

  • 1 (8-ounce) can refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 6 beef smoked sausages (or your favorite type of hot dog)

Garnish

  • Minced fresh parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Combine: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a 9×13 inch baking dish, combine the chili with beans and the undrained Rotel diced tomatoes and green chilies. Stir the mixture thoroughly to blend the flavors evenly. Then sprinkle ¾ cup of shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the chili mixture.
  2. Wrap Hot Dogs: Separate the crescent roll dough into 6 individual triangles. Sprinkle the remaining ¾ cup of shredded cheddar cheese evenly across each triangle. Then wrap each triangle of dough around a beef smoked sausage or hot dog, leaving the ends of the sausages exposed so they peek out from the dough.
  3. Bake: Arrange the cheese-wrapped hot dogs on top of the chili mixture in the baking dish. Place the dish in the oven and bake for 40 to 45 minutes or until the crescent rolls are puffed up, golden brown, and fully cooked through.
  4. Serve: Once baked, remove the casserole from the oven. Garnish with freshly minced parsley if desired for a touch of color and added freshness. Serve the casserole warm for the best taste and texture.

Notes

  • You can substitute smoked sausages with your favorite hot dogs or sausages depending on preference.
  • For a spicier kick, add extra diced jalapeños or hot sauce to the chili mixture.
  • If you prefer a milder dish, use mild Rotel tomatoes or drain some of the liquid before adding.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated in the oven for best results.
  • Make sure to monitor the crescent roll cooking time to avoid over-browning.
