These Chicken Dumpling Burgers combine the juicy, flavorful goodness of traditional dumplings with the convenience of a burger. Ground chicken mixed with cabbage, green onions, ginger, and garlic forms savory patties that are pan-cooked to perfection. Toasted buns and optional fresh toppings like lettuce and tomato complete these delicious and easy-to-make burgers, ideal for a quick weeknight meal with an Asian twist.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken Dumpling Patties

  • 1 lb ground chicken
  • 1/2 cup cabbage, finely chopped
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 tbsp ginger, grated
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp rice vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • Salt to taste

Buns & Toppings

  • 4 soft burger buns
  • 1 tbsp butter (for toasting the buns)
  • 4 lettuce leaves (optional)
  • Sliced tomato (optional)

Dipping Sauce (Optional)

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp honey (optional for sweetness)
  • 1/4 tsp chili flakes (optional for heat)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chicken dumpling filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the ground chicken, finely chopped cabbage, chopped green onions, grated ginger, minced garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, ground black pepper, and salt. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly incorporated to form the dumpling mixture.
  2. Form the burger patties: Divide the chicken mixture into 4 equal portions. Shape each portion into a round patty approximately the size of your burger buns. Press the edges gently to ensure the patties hold their shape during cooking.
  3. Cook the patties: Heat a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat and lightly grease it with a small amount of oil or non-stick spray. Add the patties and cook for about 5 to 7 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) and the patties are golden brown and thoroughly cooked through.
  4. Toast the buns: While the patties are cooking, melt the butter in a separate pan over medium heat. Slice the burger buns in half and place them in the pan, toasting each side for 1 to 2 minutes until they turn golden brown. Remove and set aside.
  5. Assemble the burgers: Place a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each toasted bun if using. Add a cooked chicken dumpling patty on top, then layer with sliced tomato if desired. Cover with the top half of the bun.
  6. Make the dipping sauce (optional): In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, honey (for sweetness, optional), and chili flakes (for heat, optional). Serve on the side with the burgers for added flavor.
  7. Serve: Serve the Chicken Dumpling Burgers immediately while warm, accompanied by the dipping sauce for a delicious fusion meal.

Notes

  • Ensure the chicken patties are cooked to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) for food safety.
  • For extra crispiness, you can cook patties on a grill instead of a skillet.
  • Feel free to add other fresh toppings such as cucumber slices or pickled vegetables for more texture and flavor.
  • The dipping sauce adds a tangy and spicy kick but can be omitted for a simpler burger.
  • These burgers can be made ahead and refrigerated for up to 2 days; reheat patties in a skillet or microwave before assembling.
