Description

Indulge in the creamy, cheesy goodness of these Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes, a classic side dish perfect for any occasion. Layers of thinly sliced potatoes bathed in a rich cheddar cheese sauce, baked to golden perfection. A comfort food favorite that pairs beautifully with any main course.

Ingredients

Scale

Potatoes:

  • 2 1/2 lbs russet potatoes (peeled and thinly sliced)

Cheese Sauce:

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Garnish:

  • chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Make the Cheese Sauce: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter, whisk in the flour to form a roux. Gradually whisk in the milk and cream until thickened. Remove from heat, add seasonings and cheeses until melted and smooth.
  3. Layer Potatoes and Sauce: Alternate layers of potatoes and cheese sauce in the baking dish. Top with Parmesan cheese.
  4. Bake: Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 20–25 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  5. Rest and Serve: Let the dish rest for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with parsley if desired.

Notes

  • Yukon Gold potatoes can be used for a creamier texture.
  • Add cooked bacon or ham between layers for a heartier version.
