Description

These Cheesy Halloween Breadstick Bones are a festive and delicious treat perfect for spooky celebrations. Soft pizza dough is filled with a savory blend of mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses, shaped into bone-like sticks, brushed with butter, and baked until golden and gooey inside. Served warm with marinara sauce, they make a fun and crowd-pleasing appetizer or snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough

  • 1 pound pizza dough
  • All-purpose flour, for dusting

Cheese Filling

  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Finishing

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • Marinara sauce, for dipping

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven & Prepare Sheets: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line two large baking sheets with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
  2. Prepare Cheese Filling: In a medium bowl, mix together the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese to create a flavorful cheese blend for the filling.
  3. Roll & Cut Dough: Lightly dust a clean surface with all-purpose flour. Roll out the pizza dough into a 12 by 16-inch rectangle. Cut the dough into 12 to 16 strips approximately 1 to 1.5 inches wide each.
  4. Fill & Seal Breadsticks: Place 1½ to 2 tablespoons of the cheese mixture onto one half of each dough strip. Fold the other half over the cheese, pressing the edges tightly to seal and prevent cheese from leaking during baking.
  5. Shape into Bones: Roll each sealed strip into a cylinder about 6 to 8 inches long. Pinch and indent both ends of the cylinder with your fingers to form two ‘knuckles’ and create a thinner ‘shaft’ in the middle, mimicking the shape of a bone. Arrange the breadstick bones on the prepared sheets spaced 1 to 2 inches apart.
  6. Brush & Bake: Lightly brush the tops of the shaped breadsticks with melted butter. Bake them for 18 to 22 minutes, turning the baking sheets halfway through to ensure even browning, until the breadsticks are golden and puffed.
  7. Serve: Remove from the oven and brush with any remaining melted butter. Serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping to enjoy their cheesy goodness.
  8. Storage: Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 5 to 7 minutes to refresh before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure the dough edges are sealed firmly to avoid cheese leaking during baking.
  • For extra flavor, sprinkle a little garlic powder or Italian seasoning on top before baking.
  • If you don’t have store-bought pizza dough, you can make your own or substitute with bread dough.
  • Allow breadsticks to cool slightly before dipping to avoid burning.
  • These breadsticks are best served fresh but can be refrigerated and gently reheated.
