Description

These Buttery Soft Pretzel Bites are a delightful snack or party appetizer that’s easy to make at home. Soft, buttery, and perfectly seasoned, these bite-sized treats are sure to be a hit with everyone.


Ingredients

Dough:

  • 1½ cups warm water (110°F)
  • 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

For boiling:

  • â…“ cup baking soda
  • 8 cups water

For topping:

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • Coarse sea salt

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour, salt, and 2 tablespoons melted butter. Mix until a dough forms. Knead on a lightly floured surface for about 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  5. Punch down the dough and divide into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope about 12–15 inches long and cut into 1-inch bites.
  6. Bring 8 cups of water and baking soda to a boil in a large pot. Working in batches, drop the pretzel bites into the boiling water for 30 seconds. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on prepared baking sheets.
  7. Brush the boiled pretzel bites with melted butter and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  8. Bake for 12–15 minutes or until golden brown. Brush again with more melted butter after baking if desired. Serve warm.

Notes

  • For sweet pretzel bites, skip the salt and toss warm bites in cinnamon sugar after baking.
  • These are best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated in the oven for a quick snack.
