Description

This Broiled Cod with Lemon Butter Garlic Sauce is a quick and flavorful seafood dish perfect for a weeknight dinner. Tender cod fillets are seasoned and cooked in a luscious garlic butter sauce, then broiled to perfection for a light, flaky texture. The fresh lemon juice and zest add a bright zing, making this recipe both simple and elegant.

Ingredients

Scale

Fish

  • 1 pound cod fillets (4 fillets)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

Lemon Butter Garlic Sauce

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley (minced)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Broiler: Turn on your oven’s broiler and allow it to heat up while you prepare the fish.
  2. Season the Cod: Pat the cod fillets dry using a paper towel to remove excess moisture. Season both sides evenly with salt and pepper.
  3. Prepare the Lemon Butter Garlic Sauce: In a cast iron or oven-safe skillet, melt the butter over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Stir in fresh lemon juice and lemon zest to combine.
  4. Cook the Cod: Place the seasoned cod fillets in the skillet with the butter garlic sauce. Cook for approximately 1 minute on one side to sear slightly, then carefully flip each fillet over to coat with sauce.
  5. Broil the Cod: Transfer the skillet to the oven, situating it 4 to 6 inches below the broiler element. Broil the cod for 6 to 9 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 130-140°F and the fish is opaque and flakes easily.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Remove the skillet from the oven and sprinkle the cod with minced fresh parsley. Optionally, serve with additional lemon slices on the side. Serve immediately while hot.

Notes

  • For best results, use fresh cod fillets and avoid overcooking to keep them tender.
  • Use a cast iron or any oven-proof skillet to cook on the stovetop and finish under the broiler safely.
  • Adjust broiling time depending on your oven’s heat intensity and thickness of fillets.
  • Fresh parsley and lemon zest enhance the brightness of the dish – don’t skip them!
  • Internal temperature should be taken with a food thermometer for perfect doneness.
