Description

Bobby Flay Salisbury Steak is a classic comfort food dish featuring tender ground beef patties smothered in a savory mushroom gravy. This homemade recipe captures all the flavors of the traditional favorite, perfect for a hearty and satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Dish:

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

For the gravy:

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 8 oz cremini or button mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme (or 1/2 teaspoon dried)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Main Dish: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Form into oval patties.
  2. Gravy: Sear patties in a skillet. Sauté onions and mushrooms, then make a roux with flour. Whisk in broth, add Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Simmer until thickened.
  3. Return patties to the skillet, cover with gravy, and simmer until fully cooked. Serve hot with mashed potatoes or egg noodles.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, use a mix of ground beef and ground pork.
  • Make the gravy richer by stirring in a splash of cream or a pat of butter before serving.
