Description

Refreshing and vibrant Blueberry Lemonade combines the sweet burst of blueberry syrup with tangy freshly squeezed lemon juice, perfect for a delightful summer beverage. Easy to prepare on the stovetop, this homemade drink is naturally vegan and can be customized to your preferred sweetness or tartness.

Ingredients

Scale

Blueberry Syrup

  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water

Lemonade

  • 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (from about 4–6 lemons)
  • 4 cups cold water
  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon slices and extra blueberries for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the blueberry syrup: In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine blueberries, sugar, and 1 cup of water. Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves and the blueberries start to burst, about 5 to 7 minutes.
  2. Strain the syrup: Remove the saucepan from heat and let the mixture cool slightly. Strain it through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl or pitcher, pressing the solids to extract all the juice, discarding the pulp.
  3. Combine the lemonade: In a large pitcher, mix the freshly squeezed lemon juice with the blueberry syrup. Add 4 cups of cold water and stir well to combine.
  4. Adjust flavor: Taste the lemonade and adjust sweetness or tartness by adding more sugar or lemon juice as desired. Stir thoroughly each time you adjust.
  5. Chill: Refrigerate the lemonade for at least 1 hour to allow flavors to meld and serve chilled.
  6. Serve: Serve the blueberry lemonade over ice cubes and garnish with lemon slices and extra blueberries if desired for an attractive presentation.

Notes

  • You can prepare the blueberry syrup ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator for up to one week.
  • For a fizzy version, replace part of the cold water with sparkling water just before serving.
  • Adjust the lemon juice and sugar to your taste preference for sweetness or tartness.
  • Use fresh or frozen blueberries interchangeably based on availability.
