Ingredients
Scale
Blueberry Syrup
- 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
Lemonade
- 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (from about 4–6 lemons)
- 4 cups cold water
- Ice cubes
- Lemon slices and extra blueberries for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the blueberry syrup: In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine blueberries, sugar, and 1 cup of water. Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves and the blueberries start to burst, about 5 to 7 minutes.
- Strain the syrup: Remove the saucepan from heat and let the mixture cool slightly. Strain it through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl or pitcher, pressing the solids to extract all the juice, discarding the pulp.
- Combine the lemonade: In a large pitcher, mix the freshly squeezed lemon juice with the blueberry syrup. Add 4 cups of cold water and stir well to combine.
- Adjust flavor: Taste the lemonade and adjust sweetness or tartness by adding more sugar or lemon juice as desired. Stir thoroughly each time you adjust.
- Chill: Refrigerate the lemonade for at least 1 hour to allow flavors to meld and serve chilled.
- Serve: Serve the blueberry lemonade over ice cubes and garnish with lemon slices and extra blueberries if desired for an attractive presentation.
Notes
- You can prepare the blueberry syrup ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator for up to one week.
- For a fizzy version, replace part of the cold water with sparkling water just before serving.
- Adjust the lemon juice and sugar to your taste preference for sweetness or tartness.
- Use fresh or frozen blueberries interchangeably based on availability.
