Description

These Authentic German Frikadellen are savory, flavorful meat patties that are a staple in German cuisine. Made with a blend of ground beef, aromatic spices, and fresh herbs, these pan-fried patties are perfect for a satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 day-old bread roll or 2 slices white bread, soaked and squeezed dry
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • 1–2 tablespoons breadcrumbs (as needed)
  • 1 tablespoon oil or butter (for frying)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground meat, chopped onion, egg, soaked bread, parsley, mustard, salt, pepper, and paprika.
  2. Mix well by hand until all ingredients are thoroughly incorporated. If the mixture feels too wet, add breadcrumbs a little at a time until the texture is moldable but moist.

  3. Shape the mixture into 6–8 slightly flattened patties, similar to thick burgers.
  4. Heat oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry the Frikadellen for 4–5 minutes per side, or until browned and cooked through.
  5. Remove from the pan and let rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Frikadellen are traditionally served with mustard, potato salad, or crusty bread.
  • You can also bake them at 375°F for about 20–25 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  • For extra flavor, try adding a pinch of marjoram or nutmeg to the mix.
