- 6 cups peeled and thinly sliced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (cut into small pieces)
For the Crust:
- 1 package (14 oz) refrigerated pie crusts (or homemade)
- 1 egg (beaten with 1 tablespoon water for egg wash)
- Optional: coarse sugar for sprinkling
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F.
- Prepare the Filling: In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix well and set aside.
- Assemble the Pie: Roll out one pie crust and fit it into a 9-inch pie dish. Fill with the apple mixture, dot the top with pieces of butter. Create a lattice crust with the second pie crust.
- Bake: Brush the lattice with egg wash, sprinkle with sugar, and bake for 45–50 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
- Cool and Serve: Cool the pie for at least 2 hours before serving. Enjoy warm with ice cream or caramel sauce.
